We want to remind you of the great (free) Pitching Clinic with Brandice Balschmiter* coming up on April 28th in the Newton North SOA.
The clinic is for pitchers or anyone (Grade 3 and above) interested in learning about pitching. Pitching is fun and Beginners are welcome. Pitchers must provide their own adult catcher for this clinic.
PLEASE NOTE: Clinic times have changed slightly to:
NGS Opening Day will be held on Sunday, April 29th at the Newton North HS Softball Field. The ceremonies, starting at 12:00 noon, will include the parade of players and coaches and a quick introduction to the season and the teams.
We are excited this year to welcome Rosey Neill, celebrated softball player, as our guest speaker.
All players should be in full NGS uniform if possible. Please have the girls meet with their teammates and coaches between 11:35 and 11:45 in the parade staging area near the netted batting cages. Once your girls have found their team, parents please head back to the softball field to watch the activities.
We highly recommend that you allow extra time for parking and walking to the field. Of course, please respect all posted parking restrictions on and off school property.
Following the event, the Grade 1/2 division games will all take place right there on the grass outfields at North. Can't wait to Play Ball!
In recognition of Doug Clott and Melinda Roman, Newton Girls Softball is again in 2018 awarding a one-time $1,000 scholarship to up to two graduating seniors who live in Newton or attend a Newton Public School, who are accepted into a post high school institution of higher education, who have played in Newton Girls Softball recreational or Panther programs for at least three seasons, and who exemplify the values of Newton Girls Softball.
Rumor has it there's some of this green stuff under the snow....with any luck we'll see it soon!
As you might know, there are some great college softball programs in our local area. If you get a chance to go out to support them, you and your kids will see some high level play and older girls loving the game your players are learning and enjoying.
